2016 EC Communal Woolgrowers Conference

COMMUNAL WOOL FARMERS SEEK STRATEGY FOR RADICAL TRANSFORMATION


Wittebergen shearing shed in the Herschel, Sterkspruit district will play host to the 5th Eastern Cape Communal Woolgrowers Association Congress (ECCWGA) to be held on 25 August 2016. This shearing shed holds the award for overall winner for outstanding achievement in developing their sheep project for increased wool income for 2007, 2011 and 2015.


The theme for the congress “Developing an effective strategy to contribute to the radical transformation of rural economies through wool production” will lay the basis for the discussion of resolutions on topics relating to Land tenure, infrastructure and animal health.


Congress will request for the construction of more dams, scooping of existing dams and access to roads. They will further request for fencing of grazing and arable lands for easier veld management.
Under the issue of Animal Health, delegates will be asking for a more effective livestock record keeping system in order to curb stock theft as well as easier control of animal diseases monitored by the veterinary directorate. They will further seek the plans of the EC Dept. Livestock development on the control of zoonotic, contagious diseases in the province.
