MISSION OF THE NWGA
The Promotion of a Sustainable and Profitable Woolled Sheep Industry in South Africa.
Six strategic objectives were identified to support the mission, namely:
- The promotion of an improved policy – and legislative environment.
- The creation of an effective production environment.
- Constructive training and development programmes to improve the knowledge and skills of all farmers and farm workers.
- The accomplishment of an improved market environment.
- The accomplishment of an empowered institutional environment in support of the wool industry.
- The establishment of a strong producers’ organization (NWGA).
The NWGA was formed in 1929 and has a voluntary membership of more than 10 000 farmers. These members produce more than 80% of the national clip of just below 50 million kg of wool annually. Close to 50% of the members of the NWGA are black communal- and emerging farmers. The NWGA is also an accredited service provider with AgriSETA (reg. Number PAET 4833), providing training in wool sheep production to farmers and farm workers in the commercial and emerging farming sectors.
